Third Place Winner of the Founder’s Pitch Jam hosted by The Indie Game Academy, Pizzanaut was made during a course of a week, and was used as an exploration into what the process of pitching video games is like.
Accompanied by a team of seven incredibly talented and supportive people, we spent May 30th-June 3rd creating the game itself. June 4th-June 7th was then dedicated to creating a mock pitch for the game, which was then presented by a panel of judges.
Our efforts culminated into the team winning third place on Pitch Night!
This was a super fun game jam to be a part of! Mostly because I served a heavy hand in fleshing out the idea of game, while the amazing artists I worked with helped expand it. It was a jam in which I truly got to express myself, as well as my love for both early 2000’s and the limitless creative potential of aliens creatures.
Concept to Finished Sprite
Something I take great pride in during this project was being able to create a design for the player character. While other team members help design NPC’s, I decided to flesh out a design for the Pizzanaut.
The goal for the design was to be simplistic enough to have multiple sprites be drawn for. We also wanted to make the player character genderless. A huge selling point for the game was the diversity that can be found within it’s cast. Having the player character be genderless further emphasized how anyone can play the game.
In the end, I created this little astronaut character, to which the team loved immediately!

Concept Art and Team Revisions
Aside from creating and revising my own designs, I would also create concept art for some of the NPC’s the player encounters. Members of the team would then proceed to expand on these concepts.
